A member of the Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education has resigned following his recent arrest on child endangerment charges.
In a statement released Tuesday morning, the Cazenovia Board of Education announced that Travis “Barr” Longo submitted his resignation from the board effective immediately at 7:33 p.m. Monday following a special board meeting.
According to the board, the resignation eliminated the need to pursue Longo’s removal through procedures outlined in New York State Education Law, which was the sole purpose of the special meeting.
The board thanked local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for their response to the situation and also expressed appreciation to Superintendent Christopher Linck for his leadership during what it described as an unprecedented event for the district.
District officials said mental health and emotional support services will remain available to students and families affected by the situation. In addition to school-based counselors, psychologists, and social workers, the district is coordinating specialized support resources through Madison and Onondaga counties.
The resignation follows Longo’s arrest by New York State Police.
State Police said the Troop D Bureau of Criminal Investigation received a law enforcement referral from Oneida County and launched an investigation. Authorities allege that Longo engaged in a pattern of sexually explicit communications with a child under the age of 12.
Longo, 46, was charged with four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor.
The Board of Education said its focus remains on supporting students and ensuring that end-of-year ceremonies and celebrations remain centered on them despite the circumstances.
The charges against Longo are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
