The Town of Clay has approved a $30 million agreement with Micron Technology related to the company’s massive semiconductor manufacturing project now under construction in Onondaga County.

The Town Board voted unanimously, 7-0, on Tuesday to approve the agreement, under which Micron will pay the town $30 million in lieu of traditional building permit fees for the first of four planned fabrication facilities at the 1,400-acre White Pine Commerce Park along Route 31.

Town officials noted the payment is larger than Clay’s entire annual budget, which totals approximately $25 million.

Micron broke ground on the project in January and has described the facility as the largest semiconductor manufacturing complex in the United States.

The company plans to invest as much as $100 billion in the campus over the next 20 years. Once fully built, the project is expected to employ up to 9,000 workers at the manufacturing site while supporting more than 40,000 additional jobs through suppliers, contractors and businesses expected to locate in the region.

The agreement covers the first of four fabrication plants Micron plans to construct as part of the long-term development of the White Pine Commerce Park site.
