As schools prepare for the upcoming school year, the Moravia Central School District has named its interim superintendent for the year.

The district’s Board of Education has announced that Thomas Turck will serve as Moravia’s superintendent for the 2025-26 school year. He recently retired from the Homer Central School District, having served as its superintendent since 2018.

Turck takes over from Connie Galvan, who had been serving as Acting Superintendent following the board’s acceptance of a separation agreement with then-Superintendent John Birmingham, who had been on a voluntary leave of absence since June 9.

The board thanks Galvan for her work during the important transition period.

The board believes that having Turck serve for the upcoming school year will ensure it is able to conduct a thorough search for the next permanent superintendent, something anticipated to begin in the fall.

The board adds that, while details are still being finalized, it will seek feedback from students, staff, families, and the wider community during the search and selection process.

The new superintendent is expected to take over on July 1, 2026.
