With the Cayuga Museum of History and Art’s move to downtown Auburn for the summer, comes a new walking tour letting visitors explore the city where talking pictures were born.
Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Director of Development and Outreach, Geoff Starks, said the two-hour walking tour will include stops along historic South Street, Genesee Street, and Fort Hill Cemetery, exploring the everyday lives of the men and women of the Case Research Lab who helped invent the first commercially successful process of putting sound on film.
“We’re really excited for this,” said Starks. “This is going to be a way for people to explore the Case Research Lab story in a way that we’ve never really done before.”
With the museum temporarily relocating to allow for the construction of the West End Arts Campus, the Case Research Lab, where sound-on-film was invented, is closed for the season. The tours are part of an effort by the museum to increase programming while in downtown Auburn.
Tours will be held rain or shine from 10:00a-2:00p on Mondays and Wednesdays. The tours will run from June 10 through September 13.
Registration is $25 per person or $20 for museum members and tours will be limited to 15 people per tour.
To register for a tour, one can contact Geoff Starks at [email protected], visit cayugamuseum.org, or register in person at Cayuga Museum Downtown at 144 Genesee St, Suite 100.
