A police investigation is underway after a reported threat was made to a local college this morning.
The Auburn Police Department states that officers were notified during the early morning hours about a possible threat at Cayuga Community College. Police immediately responded to the campus to assess the situation.
Shortly after arriving, investigators contacted college officials and also notified the Auburn Enlarged City School District about the reported threat. The district then alerted the Auburn Junior High School because of its proximity to the college campus. Authorities later clarified that the threat was directed toward the community college and not the school district’s facilities.
Police said they are actively investigating and working to determine the validity of the threat. Officials also addressed rumors circulating about an individual being seen near or around the campus, stating that those reports are not true.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department’s Detective Bureau and speak with Det. Frost at 315-255-4701.
Officials say updates will be provided as more details become available.
