Cayuga Museum Relocating to Downtown Auburn

SHARE NOW

The Cayuga Museum is moving.

With work beginning on the West End Arts Campus at the Cayuga Museum and the Schweinfurth Art Center this summer, the museum will temporarily relocate from the Case Mansion to downtown Auburn at 144 Genesee St, Suite 100.

The new site will host exhibits relating to the invention of sound-on-film as well as hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Director of Development and Outreach, Geoffery Starks, said that the change of venue won’t affect the museum’s programming.

“The plan is for us to do a number of speaker events there, smaller workshops, and things like that; so, it’s actually really an ideal programming space,” said Starks.

Starks added that thanks to financial support from the county, the museum will be able to travel throughout the county during its relocation period to provide programming to schools throughout the county, something already done for Auburn schools. He believes this outreach to county schools will remain after the museum moves back to its regular location at the Case Mansion

The museum’s final day of operation will be  May 25. It will then reopen on June 1 at the downtown site.

While downtown, the museum will be open Monday, Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00a-4:00p. Admission will be free.

The museum expects to remain downtown through September.
