Auburn Removes Old Skatepark, Prepares for New One

SHARE NOW

For the time being, Auburn no longer has a skatepark.

The old facility at Casey Park was removed last week to make way for construction on a new skatepark made by Grindline Skateparks Inc out of Seattle.

City Clerk Chuck Mason says part of the funding for the new park will come from two grants city council approved at its Thursday meeting. Speaking on FLX Morning, Mason said “the SW Metcalf Foundation and the DE French Foundation are joining the list of the many different funders for this project and the City of Auburn is receiving $25,000 from the Metcalf Foundation and $10,000 from the DE French Foundation.”

Back in April, council voted to accept $150,000 in grant funding from the Emerson Foundation.

It is hoped that, once complete, the new park will attract people from surrounding areas to the park. Many in the skateboarding community see Grindline parks as destination attractions.

The $941,000 project is expected to be complete in October.
