One of the two men running for Mayor of Auburn has received another endorsement.
Auburn Police Local 195 has announced it is supporting Jimmy Giannettino in his bid to become the city’s next mayor.
In its decision, the union stated “As a council member, Jimmy has volunteered on multiple occasions to complete ride-alongs with patrol officers so that he could gain a first hand look and perspective of the challenges faced during a normal shift by law enforcement. Jimmy has been supportive and open with local law enforcement, and he has taken time to hear the issues we face. Jimmy is willing to work with us to come up with solutions that will make our citizens and our officers more safe, and for that we offer Jimmy our support and our endorsement.”
Giannettino is grateful and said in a statement that he is proud to have earned their confidence.
“I would like to thank the men and women of Auburn Police Department for their endorsement. I am proud that I have earned their confidence and trust in me. More importantly I would like to thank them for the vital work they do on a daily basis to keep our community safe. I am looking forward to working with them for the next four years.”
The Democratic city councilor faces off against Republican and former mayor Tim Lattimore in the race to be Auburn’s first new mayor since 2008.
Giannettino already boasts the support of the city’s firefighters union, the union representing area healthcare workers, and retiring mayor Mike Quill.
Lattimore has been able to pick up the support of Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.
