A new four-way stop will be installed this weekend with the goal of improving safety in front of one Auburn school.
The stop will be at the intersection of Metcalf Drive and Mary Street in front of Seward Elementary. In August, Auburn City Council voted to turn the intersection into a four-way stop and add crosswalks to the intersection.
As part of its Capital Improvement Project, Seward announced it would create a new parking lot and student drop-off loop between the Pop Warner Football Field and the west side of the school with the loop’s exiting aligning with Mary Street.
It is hoped that the addition of crosswalks and stop signs will improve safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.
Discussions of improving safety in the area began in 2023 after a child was struck by a car while crossing the street in front of the school.
