The City of Auburn is preparing for major road work on Lake Ave.

The city announced it will begin preparation for work on Lake Ave between Osborne and Swift Streets, with construction expected to occur between mid-April and mid-May. Contractor Northern Asphalt will begin removing old trolley tracks, while the Department of Municipal Utilities will begin underground utility work.

Additionally, repaving of the portion of Lake Ave from Swift Street to the city line at Fleming Street is expected to take place this summer.

The project expected to have the most impact on drivers’ daily commutes is the upcoming Lake Ave Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The project will begin on June 29, 2026, with the bridge’s closure to allow for necessary repairs and renovations. The bridge will remain closed through the end of August 2027.

The work is expected to extend the bridge’s lifespan by 25 to 30 years.

During the closure, drivers will either need to head downtown or go out to White Bridge Road in Owasco to cross the Owasco Outlet.
