Two Cayuga County infrastructure projects are set to receive a combined $4.1 million in federal funding aimed at improving public safety, supporting economic development, and enhancing quality of life for residents.

Congressman John Mannion highlighted the investments, which include funding for improvements at Emerson Park in Auburn and upgrades to the water system in the Town of Sennett.

The largest award, $3.1 million, will be used to replace the aging bridge connecting Emerson Park to Deauville Island. Officials say the new bridge will improve access to the island and help pave the way for future park enhancements.

According to Mannion, those future projects could include construction of an amphitheater and a new playground, expanding recreational opportunities at the popular Cayuga County destination.

An additional $1 million has been allocated for water infrastructure improvements in the Town of Sennett. The project will fund the installation of new water mains, hydrants, and valves, along with the creation of an emergency water interconnection with the Town of Skaneateles.

Officials say the upgrades will strengthen the reliability and resiliency of the area’s water system while improving public health and safety.

Mannion said the federal funding is intended to support projects that address critical infrastructure needs while creating opportunities for future growth and development throughout Cayuga County.
