Patients at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic could see faster diagnostic testing and quicker results thanks to a newly modernized clinical laboratory unveiled by Rochester Regional Health.

Hospital officials recently celebrated the opening of the renovated inpatient laboratory, part of Rochester Regional Health’s broader Chemistry Project, which is aimed at upgrading laboratory technology and expanding testing capabilities across the health system.

The new laboratory features an open floor plan designed to improve collaboration among staff and streamline operations. Upgrades include modern infrastructure, ergonomic workstations, updated flooring and space for future expansion and technology improvements.

Hospital President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Rulffes said the investment will help support both laboratory employees and patient care.

“Laboratory services play a critical role in patient diagnosis, treatment, and care planning,” Rulffes said. “This investment creates an environment that supports these vital team members while expanding our ability to deliver timely, high-quality diagnostic services for the patients and communities we serve.”

According to Rochester Regional Health, the upgraded facility will allow a greater number of tests to be performed on-site, reducing the need to send specimens to outside laboratories. Officials say that change will help patients and healthcare providers receive results more quickly, allowing for faster diagnoses and treatment decisions.

The project is intended to position the hospital’s laboratory services for future growth while meeting the evolving healthcare needs of patients throughout the Finger Lakes region.

Hospital officials noted that while clinical laboratory operations have moved into the renovated space, the outpatient draw station remains in its current location and patients will not experience any changes in access to services.
