Major Kevin Reilly has been appointed as the 34th Troop Commander of New York State Police Troop D. State Police Superintendent Steven. James made the announcement on Thursday.
Major Reilly’s command covers seven counties in Central New York, including Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego. Operating from 27 facilities, the men and women of Troop D provide service to 167 towns, 89 villages, and five cities.
Major Reilly began his career with the State Police on January 8, 1996, when he entered the New York State Police Academy. In March 2003, he was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to SP Horseheads. In August 2003, he was appointed Station Commander and over the next four years was assigned to SP Rochester.

After being promoted to Lieutenant in October 2007, Major Reilly was assigned to Division Headquarters Traffic. On February 18, 2012, Major Reilly was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau West. On February 12, 2015, he was assigned to SP Rochester as the Zone One Commander, where he served for ten years.
Major Reilly is a resident of Livingston County and is a 2008 graduate of SUNY Albany.
He replaces Major Robert J. Simpson, who was reassigned to Division Headquarters, Albany.
