Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley announced Friday she will retire at the end of August, following growing scrutiny over her actions during a controversial traffic stop earlier this year.
The announcement comes after the New York State Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct released a report on July 15 recommending a public censure of Doorley. The report stems from an April 22 incident in which Doorley, after being caught speeding near her Webster home, failed to pull over and instead drove home. Once there, she was recorded berating responding officers and stated she had contacted Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier to explain she was not a threat.
The report also noted Doorley planned to leave office, but details on her departure weren’t confirmed until Friday.
Doorley, 62, has served in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office since 1992 and was first elected as DA in 2011. She was re-elected to a fourth term in 2023. Her retirement was confirmed in a letter issued Friday.
