Monroe County DA Apologizes for Disobeying Traffic Stop

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley released a video Monday apologizing for not pulling over for a traffic stop in the town of Webster last Monday.

Police attempted to pull Doorley over on April 22nd after she was clocked driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Doorley did not pull over for the officer but instead called the Webster Police Chief to inform him that she was not a threat and would talk with the officer at her home.

The town released body camera footage showing the interaction Doorley had with the officer at her home.

“Last Monday, I failed you and the standards I hold myself to, and for that, I’m so sorry. What I did was wrong. No excuses. I take full responsibility for my actions. I fell short of the values I’ve held for my entire 33-year career. I didn’t treat this officer with the respect he deserves. All police officers deserve respect. I am truly and sincerely sorry.”

In the video, Doorley would go on to say at the time she was caught speeding she had just come from work, was dealing with three homicides that occurred over the weekend and was “reeling from a frightening medical concern that my husband received that afternoon.”

“But we all have bad days and stress,” added Doorley.” And it was wrong for me to take it out on an officer who was simply doing his job.”

Doorley said she has already pleaded guilty to the speeding ticket and is referring the entire matter to a district attorney from another county for review. She added she will self-report the incident to the grievance committee and will cooperate with their investigation.

Doorley added she will take ethics training to remind herself that professionalism matters.
