Gas prices are rising across New York, with drivers seeing sharper increases locally compared to the national trend.

According to AAA Western and Central New York, the state average for a gallon of regular gas is now $4.13, up six cents from last week. That’s a significant jump compared to the national average, which also sits at $4.13 but rose by just one cent over the same period.

Prices are noticeably higher across parts of western and central New York. Rochester is reporting an average of $4.18 per gallon, while Watertown is at $4.19 — among the highest in the region. Buffalo drivers are paying around $4.16, and Syracuse and Rome are both at $4.14. Ithaca is slightly lower at $4.14, while Elmira remains one of the least expensive at $4.08 per gallon.

Compared to a year ago, prices have climbed sharply. The New York average was $3.11 at this time last year, more than a dollar lower than current levels.

Diesel prices are also on the rise, with the New York average now at $5.95 per gallon, up four cents in the past week.

Analysts point to continued volatility in oil markets as a key factor. Crude oil prices are hovering between $101 and $103 per barrel, driven in part by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Experts note that while national prices have remained relatively steady, New York drivers are feeling a more pronounced impact at the pump.
