A bill in Albany would allow wine to be sold in grocery stores.
Democrats Liz Krueger of Manhattan and Pamela Hunter of Syracuse have unveiled their proposal to allow New York supermarkets to sell wine.
Forty states allow wine sales in grocery stores, but not New York. New Yorkers wishing to buy wine must go to a liquor store or a winery.
The new bill would allow wine sales in only full-service grocery stores, not convenience or drug stores. Big box stores would still be barred from selling wine.
Liquor store owners oppose the new legislation.
