A man with thirty years of law enforcement experience in Yates County has announced his candidacy to become the next sheriff.
Frank Ryan began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1993 as a part-time corrections officer and on the Marine Patrol Unit. Two years later, he became a deputy sheriff, who served as a field training officer. Through a number of promotions from within the department, Ryan is currently the Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant. He instructs at the Finger Lakes Enforcement Academy and is an adjunct professor at Keuka College teaching criminal justice classes.
A graduate of St. Michael’s School and Penn Yan Academy, Ryan received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport.
Earlier this month, Sheriff Ron Spike announced he would not seek re-election in the Fall. Spike has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1970 and was first elected sheriff in 1992.
