A Penn Yan family already familiar with hardship is now facing another devastating loss, as the community comes together to offer support.

Friends and loved ones have launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for the Callaway family following the unexpected death of Bonnie Callaway on April 13. The loss comes just days before her daughter, Elissa, is expected to give birth to her first child.

Those close to the family say Bonnie was eagerly looking forward to becoming a grandmother and celebrating several recent milestones in her children’s lives, including engagements and new homes.

The tragedy follows another major loss for the family. Three years ago, the Callaways lost their father to pancreatic cancer. Since then, friends say the family has remained close-knit, supporting one another through difficult times.

Now, supporters say the family is in need of help once again.

The GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist with funeral expenses and other financial burdens associated with Bonnie’s sudden passing. Organizers say the Callaways are known in the Penn Yan community for always being there for others, and now it’s their turn to receive that same support.
