Penn Yan firefighters assess the extensive damage to a house following a fire in the Finger Lakes region, where two individuals were rescued.

Two people were rescued Friday morning after a fire broke out at a home on Cornwell Street in the village of Penn Yan.

Penn Yan police and firefighters were called to the scene around 7:38 a.m. after an occupant reported to 911 that they were trapped in a back bedroom and unable to reach a window.

About 10 minutes later, firefighters rescued a 12-year-old boy. Unsure how many people remained inside, firefighters conducted an interior search and found a 60-year-old woman.

Both victims were taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The Yates County Fire Investigation Team is working to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters from Dundee also responded, while Branchport/Keuka Park crews stood by.

This is a developing story and we will update with more information as it is made available.
