New York State Police have arrested a Long Island man following a months-long investigation into a fraud scheme that targeted a Wayne County resident.
Authorities say Aidan Chan, 19, of Hicksville, was taken into custody on Sunday in connection with a grand larceny case that dates back to August 2025.
According to investigators, State Police initially responded to a complaint in the town of Williamson after a resident reported being scammed by individuals posing as bank fraud representatives. The victim was convinced her accounts had been compromised and was instructed to withdraw $20,000 in cash.
Police say the victim then handed the money over to a person who came to her home to collect it.
An investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Williamson identified Chan as the individual who retrieved the cash. Authorities allege he traveled to the victim’s residence, took possession of the money, and later transported it to another individual downstate.
Chan has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony. He was processed at State Police in Williamson and arraigned through Wayne County’s centralized arraignment process.
State Police say multiple units assisted in the investigation, including the New York State Police Intelligence Center, Troop L Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop NYC BCI, and the Cellular Analysis Response Team.
