The Geneva Public Library is gearing up for its annual spring book sale, which runs April 2 through April 10 on the library’s second floor. Organizers say this year’s sale will feature more than 16,000 items, including books, CDs, audio tapes, and puzzles.
Volunteers Spike and Deborah, who have been helping with the sale for 11 and 16 years respectively, said the collection is carefully organized into sections such as mystery, thriller, young adult, children’s, and nonfiction.
The sale kicks off with full-price items: hardcover and trade books are $2, mass market and children’s books are five for $1, and audio items and puzzles range from 20 to 50 cents. Discount days follow, with prices dropping further and special promotions such as “buy five, get the sixth free.” The final three days feature bag sales: April 8 is $5 per bag, April 9 is $2, and April 10 is $1.
Volunteers said preparing for the sale takes months of effort, from collecting donated items to organizing them on the library’s shelves. The library also maintains a year-round “Balcony Bookstore,” where books are sold throughout the year, helping manage inventory for the main sale.
