Children in the Finger Lakes will have an opportunity to improve their swimming skills later this month through a free Learn-to-Swim program at Taughannock Falls State Park.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced the two-week program will run from July 27 through Aug. 7 and is open to New York State residents ages 5 to 12.

Classes will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. at the park’s swimming area.

The program is designed for beginning swimmers in Levels 1 and 2, with participants’ skill levels determined during the first lesson. Instruction follows the American Red Cross Water Safety Program, and children who complete the course will receive a Learn-to-Swim certificate.

Parents interested in registering their children can contact Cait Rejman by calling or texting 607-882-5196 or by emailing [email protected].
