The Marion S. Whelan School of Nursing will celebrate a major milestone next week as it honors its newest graduates and marks the 70th anniversary of its Practical Nursing program.

The school’s 70th annual Pinning Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. June 18 at Geneva High School. The event will recognize members of the Class of 2026 while also celebrating seven decades of nursing education in the Finger Lakes region.

Alumni, family members, friends and community members are invited to attend the ceremony, which will also be livestreamed on YouTube.

For 70 years, the Marion S. Whelan School of Nursing has trained practical nurses for careers in healthcare. The Geneva-based school is one of only three hospital-based practical nursing programs remaining in New York state.

School officials said the ceremony will highlight the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class while honoring the generations of nurses who have completed the program since its founding.

The annual pinning ceremony is a longstanding nursing tradition that symbolizes a graduate’s transition into the profession and recognizes their commitment to patient care.

The Marion S. Whelan School of Nursing is part of UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health and continues to provide practical nursing education for students pursuing careers in healthcare throughout the region.
