New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric are hosting a community outreach event this week to help customers manage their energy costs.

The “Community Connection” event will take place on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wallington Fire Department on Ridge Road in Sodus.

Utility representatives will be on hand to connect customers with available resources and programs designed to help reduce monthly energy bills.

NYSEG and RG&E are partnering with the Wayne County Department of Social Services for the event. A county representative will be available to assist residents with applying for the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP, a federally funded program that helps eligible households cover heating and energy costs.

Officials say there will be no formal presentation, and customers are encouraged to stop by at any time during the event.

The outreach effort is part of ongoing initiatives to provide support and information to customers facing rising energy costs.
