A Red Creek man is facing multiple charges after a domestic incident in the Town of Wolcott, according to State Police.

Troopers were called to a home on Main Street around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after a 911 report of a disturbance involving a man and a child.

Police say 38-year-old Joseph Cottrell Jr. got into a physical altercation with a juvenile family member inside the home. During the incident, he’s accused of putting pressure on the child’s neck, making it difficult to breathe and leaving visible injuries.

Investigators say five other children were in the home and witnessed what happened.

Cottrell was taken into custody at the scene and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts of second-degree harassment.

He was taken to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Police reports are automatically removed from this site after 90 days.
