A Penn Yan man is facing felony driving while intoxicated charges after crashing his vehicle into a tree early Saturday morning in the Town of Barrington.

According to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to Chubb Hollow Road at approximately 12:30 a.m. on June 27 for a report of a one-vehicle crash with injuries.

Investigators determined that 31-year-old Patrick Meland was traveling north on Chubb Hollow Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.

Deputies said Meland displayed multiple signs of intoxication during the investigation. He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable and prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Meland was transported by Penn Yan Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

He was later released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to answer the charges in Barrington Town Court at a later date.
