Passenger Killed in Seneca Two-Car Crash in Ontario County

One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning at the intersection of Kashong Switch Road and Wabash Road in the Town of Seneca.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Sunday for a reported crash with injuries.

Investigators said 65-year-old Bruce Eric Peterson of Cicero was driving a 2026 Subaru westbound on Kashong Switch Road when it collided with a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Wabash Road. The Jetta was driven by 41-year-old Christopher Michael Hughes of Farmington.

Peterson was transported by Stanley Hall Gorham Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with facial and back injuries.

A passenger in Peterson’s vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Hughes was evaluated at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

Members of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigation Division responded to investigate the crash. The intersection remained closed for approximately three hours while investigators processed the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Stanley Hall Gorham Ambulance, the Stanley and Hall fire departments, the Ontario County EMS/Fire Coordinators Office, and Mercy Ambulance.
