A rear-seat passenger was killed and several others were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of State Route 224 and State Route 13 in the Town of Cayuta.

Troopers from the Dundee and Montour Falls barracks were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday for a report of a serious personal injury crash.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2023 Tesla, driven by a 25-year-old motorist, was traveling north on State Route 224 when it failed to stop for a red traffic signal and entered the intersection.

Police said the Tesla was struck by an eastbound 2023 Dodge Charger driven by 52-year-old Bryan Woodworth of Elmira, who was traveling on State Route 13 with a green light.

The Tesla was carrying four people. A rear-seat passenger was transported to Robert Packer Hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead. State Police have not yet released the victim’s identity.

The Tesla driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was initially taken to Guthrie Corning Hospital before being transferred to Robert Packer Hospital for additional treatment.

Two other passengers were also taken to Robert Packer Hospital. One suffered serious life-threatening injuries, while the other was evaluated and reported to have no apparent injuries.

Woodworth was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Identification Unit assisted at the scene.
