The 2025 New York State Summer School of the Arts kicks off Sunday at SUNY Fredonia, bringing together 145 talented students from across the state, including students from Wayne High School.
The four-week, in-residence program offers intensive training in Visual Arts, Media Arts, and Theatre, with daily instruction from professional artists and educators. Students were selected through a competitive application process based on the strength of their portfolios and dedication to the arts.
Living on campus, the young artists will take part in six-day-a-week classes and leadership development, culminating in final performances and exhibitions to showcase their growth.
Molly Hennighausen, Executive Director of the New York State Summer School of the Arts, said, “We are thrilled to welcome this year’s exceptional cohort of students to NYSSSA. Each of these young artists brings incredible passion, curiosity, and dedication to their craft, and it is truly inspiring to witness their growth throughout this immersive program. NYSSSA provides a rare and transformative environment where students can push the boundaries of their creativity, learn from accomplished professional artists, and build lifelong friendships and connections. I can’t wait to see the powerful and innovative work they will produce this summer — and to watch them carry these experiences forward into their future artistic journeys.”
Founded in 1970, the NYSSSA summer residency program offers highly competitive pre-professional training to promising student artists through four weeks of intensive work and interaction with internationally acclaimed artists and performing arts companies. Tuition rates are maintained at a modest level and financial assistance is available, enabling every student who qualifies the opportunity to participate in the program.
