In the 1970’s the hot spot for live music in Wayne County was the Tom Jones (TJ’s for short).  A group that made frequent stops at TJ’s was the Tood Hobin Band, and they’ll be back in Lyons this Sunday night.  Todd is now a professor of music at LeMoyne College in Syracuse.  Todd and his band will perform, and he will talk about the history of Rock and Roll.

The show, the last of the Wayne County Bicentennial, is Sunday at 6:30 at the Ohman Theatre. You can listen to our interview with Todd Hobin online at Finger Lakes Daily News. com.

NEWS RELEASE –

The Wayne County Bicentennial committee concludes its yearlong celebration of the County’s 200th anniversary with the last free musical performance of the Heritage Music Series.  On November 5th, starting at 6:30 pm at the Ohmann Theatre in Lyons, Todd Hobin will present the History of Rock’n’Roll. This presentational concert is the result of Hobin’s college course, “The History of Rock.” His students enjoy his take on the events leading up to and including the early days of rock’n’roll. The LIVE demonstrations of that music have taken his lecture into a whole new realm of art and history. The performance will transport many listeners back to those “good old days.”

According to Professor Hobin, “The Rock Era is too broad and too diverse to cover in a semester, let alone in a two-hour concert.” However, he has made the effort to present his audience with the history of where this “new” music came from and how it burst onto the pop music scene and has dominated ever since. In these public performances, he demonstrates early pop music with snippets of songs and breaks down the notes of the Blues, where it came from, and how it infiltrated into Country Western, Folk, Pop, and even Church music.

The lecture is punctuated with personal reflections from Hobin and his first-hand experience having worked with some of the early practitioners of rock’n’roll such as Little Richard, James Cotton (Muddy Waters), The Kinks, The Beach Boys, and many more. He is still performing today while continuing as a professor and a fan of Rock. He has played in concert halls, stadiums, barrooms, roadhouses, fields, cities and too many towns to mention. Hobin says of his life-long adventure, “I am a road warrior who is still playing, still writing songs, still recording, still practicing, and still dreaming.” The Todd Hobin Band was a popular favorite on the music scene in Wayne County and Rochester back in the 70’s and 80’s.

“Mr. Hobin will entertain us and provide a lesson in history for music lovers of all ages,” states Gene Bavis, Bicentennial Committee Co-chair, Blue Grass Festival coordinator and retired history teacher. “We are thrilled to welcome him back to Wayne County.” It feels more like a concert and a party than any lecture you have ever attended. All performances in the Heritage Music Series are FREE thanks to generous contributions from the Robert G. Boehmler Foundation and our Bicentennial Sponsors.
