Another disturbing case of animal cruelty involving horses out of Ontario County.
While investigating an unrelated complaint at Alan Scrivener’s Stoddard Road property in Hopewell, Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies checked a barn and found five horses standing in five-to-six feet of manure. The hooves of the horses were found to be to the point where they had curled up due to several years of neglect and were not being checked regularly by a veterinarian. The horses did have hay to eat but little water. The horses have been removed from the property and are being cared for at a local livestock business.
As deputies checked the area around the barn several bones were found in another exterior coral. A search warrant was obtained and the remains of three horses were found on the property.
The 72-year-old Scrivener was charged with five counts of animal cruelty and failure to provide food and water to an impounded animal. The horses are being cared for at a local livestock business.
Scrivener’s arrest marks the second arrest of animal cruelty involving horses in Ontario County this week. On Monday, Edward Perdue was arrested after two dead hours were found on his Crowley Road property in Farmington along with four hours that were alive but determined to be malnourished and found standing in 24-to-30 inches of manure.
