Police have arrested a Seneca Falls man for allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer.
Marquise Hatten’s arrest stems from an incident on Halloween in which he allegedly contacted a police officer regarding a prior arrest. Hatten attempted to offer the officer money in exchange for the officer to use their influence to have the charges dropped. The officer rejected the offer and reported the incident.
Hatten was charged with felony bribery.
The 24-year-old Seneca Falls man was one of two people arrested in October for allegedly attempting to obstruct a home visit from CPS. It was during that October 8th visit that unsecured firearms that were accessible to a 3-year-old child in the home were allegedly found. Police say the firearms were neither stored in a secure area nor equipped with gun locks, violating New York State’s Safe Storage Act. Hatten was also charged with resisting arrest stemming from the CPS visit.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
