It’s a new record and one that is going to be hard to beat.
Jim Britenbaugh, an angler from Pennsylvania, broke the New York State record for largemouth bass while fishing last Sunday when he reeled in a 12.35-pound Cayuga Lake large-mouth bass, smashing the previous record by a pound.
Department of Environmental Conservation personnel were on hand to verify the catch, but they have not yet officially confirmed the new record. He released the fish back into the lake. When it’s confirmed, Cayuga Lake will hold state records for both largemouth and smallmouth bass.
