Geneva Middle School Assistant Principal Shannon Kelley will step into the role of principal on July 1.
Kelley has been a teacher in the building since 2014 and an assistant principal since 2022.
“Shannon has been a part of the Geneva Middle School family for a long time as a teacher, and we’ve had the opportunity to see her work in a leadership capacity over the last few years,” said Superintendent Bo Wright. “We’ve been very impressed with her abilities as an instructional leader, as well as her skills in managing operations and forming relationships with students, staff, and families. Shannon has also been an integral part of the improvement of that building, and so we feel very confident that she’s going to continue to lead the middle school in the right direction.”
“I am deeply humbled and excited for the opportunity to serve as principal of GMS, a place that has shaped me both personally and professionally,” said Kelley. “It’s an honor to lead alongside the educators and staff who first welcomed me as a new teacher, mentored me, and continue to inspire me with their unwavering passion and dedication. GMS is more than a school; it’s a family, and I am proud to be part of it.”
Kelley replaces Matt Heath, who is taking over as principal of Geneva High School. “Matt has done an incredible job at GMS, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he’s able to do at the high school,” said Wright.
In addition to her years of experience in education, Kelley has also served as a company first sergeant, civil affairs team leader, and army instructor and course manager with the U.S. Army Reserve. She has a bachelor’s in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo, a master’s in education from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from the University of Rochester.
