Mandatory Conservation Water Order Issued for Interlaken

SHARE NOW

The Village of Interlaken will be conducting routine maintenance on the wells that provide water to the Village. This work will take several days to complete during which time bulk water will have to be brought in to supply the Village. Because of this, the Seneca County Health Department and the Village of Interlaken Department of Public Works has issued a MANDATORY CONSERVATION ORDER for all those who are serviced with Village of Interlaken Water – effective immediately and in effect until further notice. A Conservation Order is an advisory to limit water usage as much as possible.

The Village of Interlaken is doing everything they can to ensure that there is an adequate supply of water for consumption and fire suppression and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all those effected. All residents served by the Interlaken water system are asked to do their part to conserve water.

Conservation tips include:

1. Use you dishwasher and washing machine only for full loads.
2. If you wash your dishes by hand, do not leave the water running for rinsing.
3. Keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator to keep it cool instead of running the water.
4. Use of disposable/single service dinnerware, cups and utensils will minimize dishes that need to be washed.
5. Check faucets and pipes for leaks. Leaks waste water 24 hours a day, seven days a week and often can be easily repaired.
6. Check you toilets for leaks. To test for leaks, add a small amount of food coloring to the toilet tank. If, without flushing, the color begins to appear in the bowl, you have a leak that should be repaired immediately.
7. Take shorter showers. Long showers can waste many gallons every extra minute.
8. Do not leave water running while brushing your teeth.
9. Do not wash your car.
10. Do not water your lawn.
11. Collect rain water to water your garden. Water as early in the morning as possible. This will prevent the water from evaporating as quickly and result in the need for less watering in general.
