They’re no longer the Warriors.
Romulus Central School District has chosen its new name and mascot – the Romulus Royals. The new logo features a stag with a crown nestled between its antlers.
The district has to drop its Warriors nickname after a decision by the New York State Education Department banned any schools from using Native American names, logos, or imagery.
The district ran a survey in July which garnered over 75 different name options to replace the Warriors. A committee made up of students, alumni, staff, community members, and school board members then narrowed that list to three candidates – Ravens, Royals, and Wolves.
In September, students voted on their new mascot and the Royals came out on top.
