A budget that raises the tax levy by five percent and totals $20.9 million has been approved for 2025 by the Geneva City Council. David West, the city’s Planning and Economic Development Director said his department, like others, was asked to make some cuts for next year.
“Investments were lost. We lost some money for grant writing, for more pursuing more grants,” said West on Finger Lakes News Radio’s ‘FLX Morning.’ “We did not receive the funding we were hoping for that would kind of smooth our process with the summer concert series. Our department puts on the Concerts at the Lakefront through the summer and it’s always a struggle getting the amount of support we need from the community to do that. Cities are in an awkward position where we can accept donations but we can’t request them. So we were hoping to get the donations to fund that and we were hoping to have a little more guarantee in the budget this year for that process, but that didn’t work out.”
West believes his department is in a good position overall and believes the cuts to the tax rate will help development be more attractive.
