Approximately 10,000 security staff members employed by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) have returned to work, or are available for duty at state prisons. The state announced Monday that the illegal strike conducted by correction officers at prisons statewide for almost three weeks is officially over. However, more than 2,000 employees who continued to strike received termination letters.
“Officers and sergeants who did not have pre-approved medical leave and who did not return by this morning’s 6:45 a.m. deadline have been terminated effective immediately,” DOCCS Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said on Monday.
Correction officers at Auburn, Cayuga, and Five Points took part in the 22-day-long strike.
