Cheshire Volunteer Firefighters will continue their training on their newly acquired Fire Rescue boat, purchased at the end of 2024. Firefighters are focusing on mastering vessel operations, the advanced navigation systems, effective water rescues, and the boat’s pump operations in preparation for the busy summer season.
“This boat represents a major step forward in our ability to respond quickly and effectively on the water,” said Chief Chris Brown, Chief of the Cheshire Fire Department. “It’s not just about the technology — it’s about being ready to serve and protect everyone who enjoys Canandaigua Lake.”
The new boat, Cheshire Marine 4, was officially launched on Thursday. Firefighters will be training on the water several days a week throughout the summer. The vessel will be staffed during high-traffic days and weekends throughout the summer, ensuring a rapid response capability on Canandaigua Lake.
Jared Simpson, Town Supervisor of the Town of Canandaigua, praised the department’s continued service. “The Town of Canandaigua is so grateful for our relationship with the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department. This new rescue boat will be so helpful to everyone who enjoys our lake. As lake traffic increases, so does the need for coverage. Thank you, Cheshire VFD, for continuing to provide great service to our region.”
Chief Brown said this boat will serve as a vital tool in protecting both residents and visitors, reinforcing the commitment of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department to the safety and well-being of the community.
