A Canandaigua teen convicted last month of sexually abusing an 11-year-old child with a developmental delay has received his punishment.
19-year-old Dakota Murphy was sentenced by New York State Supreme Court Judge Victoria Argento to 18 years behind bars, followed by 20 years of probation. Murphy was found guilty in June by an Ontario County jury of first-degree sexual abuse.
According to District Attorney Jim Ritts, the abuse occurred in early 2024. Murphy was arrested by Canandaigua Police in May of that year.
