A 19-year-old from Canandaigua faces up to 25 years in prison after being convicted in Ontario County Court of criminal sexual act.
Dakota Murphy was arrested in May of last year for allegedly having oral sex with an 11-year-old developmentally delayed child in early 2024.
According to the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, Murphy will be sentenced on June 26th.
“The guilty verdict against Dakota Murphy brought some level of justice to the young child whom Murphy preyed upon,” District Attorney Jim Ritts said in a statement. “The bravery of this child to come to court and testify in front of a jury of strangers, as well as the man who violated her, is unbelievable. The jury’s verdict of guilty proves once again that the voice of a child does matter.”
