Thousands of people are visiting and camping in Trumansburg, as the 31st Annual Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance kicked off Thursday afternoon.
The year was 1990, and the world faced a new crisis: AIDS. That’s when Donna the Buffalo and friends, The Horse Flies, and Neon Baptist came together and sold out Ithaca’s State Theater raising over $10,000 for AIDS Work of Tompkins County.
The next year, the festival was born at the Trumansburg Fair Grounds and nothing (except for a pandemic) could stop the herd and others from making the trip to Tompkins County.
The festival continues today, Saturday, and Sunday.
