A 59-year-old was killed and another driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning on State Route 54 in the Town of Torrey.

According to New York State Police, the crash happened around 11:39 a.m. when an eastbound dump truck encountered a vehicle ahead that was attempting to turn left. The dump truck braked suddenly, and while the turning vehicle was able to avoid a collision, the truck crossed into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the Silverado, who was alone in the vehicle, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The dump truck driver, a 38-year-old Penn Yan man, was thrown from the vehicle during the collision. He was taken by ambulance to Geneva General Hospital before being airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Police said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

State Police said a preliminary breath test administered to the truck driver showed no signs of alcohol impairment.

State Police investigators, including collision reconstruction and commercial vehicle specialists, responded to the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
