Auburn’s City Council took several significant budget steps Thursday night, including voting to reopen the Casey Park Pool for a portion of this summer.

City Clerk Chuck Mason, on Friday’s FLX Morning on Finger Lakes News Radio, said the city received significant assistance from the Auburn YMCA, which will provide lifeguard services for the pool.  Mason also said the YMCA secured a $15,000 grant from Wegmans to help cover costs associated with reopening the facility.

“The City of Auburn made the decision last night that the city will do its part and appropriate the funds necessary to get the Casey Park pool open this summer,” Mason said.

Before the pool can reopen, the city must complete repairs to the concrete deck, railings, and stairways leading into and out of the pool. Those improvements are expected to take place during June.

Mason said city officials are hopeful the pool will open around the Fourth of July and remain available throughout the month.

Specific opening dates and operating hours have not yet been announced.

Also on Thursday, City Council approved a local law to override the 4.72% property tax cap for the 2026-27 fiscal year.  Mayor Jimmy Giannettino and Councilors Christina Calarco, Terry Cuddy, and Dr. Rhoda Overstreet-Wilson voted yes and Councilor Craig Diego cast his vote as no.
