A Brooklyn man was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital following a rollover crash Thursday evening in the Town of West Bloomfield.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 7:53 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash on State Routes 5 and 20.  Investigators determined that a 2017 Volvo V60 operated by 27-year-old William Shephard was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and veered off the roadway to the north. The vehicle then struck a utility pole, breaking it in half, before rolling over multiple times.

National Grid was called to the scene after utility wires were brought down by the crash.

Following an investigation, deputies determined Shephard was operating the vehicle at an imprudent speed and was using a mobile device at the time of the crash. He was issued citations for both offenses.

Shephard was transported to Rochester by ambulance with minor injuries for evaluation.

He is scheduled to appear in West Bloomfield Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Ricci’s Towing removed the vehicle from the scene. Assisting agencies included Honeoye Falls Ambulance, the Ionia Fire Department, West Bloomfield Fire Department, and East Bloomfield Fire Department.
