A Newfield man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after New York State Police say he illegally obtained electricity by running a power cord from a vacant apartment to his own residence.
State Police at Newfield said Scott Goodrich, 62, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into stolen utility services.
According to investigators, Goodrich allegedly entered a vacant apartment in a building on Elmira Road in Newfield without permission and ran an electrical cord from the vacant unit to the apartment where he lives to obtain electricity.
Goodrich was charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and theft of services, a misdemeanor.
He was processed at the State Police barracks in Ithaca before being transported to the Tompkins County Jail for centralized arraignment.
