Keuka Comfort Care Home is once again asking the community to clean out their closets and support its mission through a shoe donation drive beginning July 1.
The Penn Yan nonprofit announced it is bringing back the fundraiser after a successful shoe drive two years ago that collected 3,360 pairs of shoes. Organizers initially questioned whether another drive would generate the same level of community support, but said local residents have shown they are ready to participate again.
The fundraiser accepts new and gently used shoes in good, clean, wearable condition. Donations can include men’s, women’s, children’s, and baby shoes, including sneakers, boots, slippers, heels, and cleats. Skates of any kind will not be accepted.
Collected shoes will be picked up by a partner organization, weighed, and converted into a financial donation for Keuka Comfort Care Home based on the total weight collected. The shoes will then be distributed to developing countries, where they can be reused rather than ending up in landfills.
Donations can be dropped off at Keuka Comfort Care Home beginning July 1. Additional drop-off locations will be announced closer to the start of the drive.
Organizers hope to surpass the 3,360 pairs collected during the previous shoe drive while raising funds to support the home’s services.
