Expectant parents and families with young children are invited to attend a free Community Baby Shower later this month at the Geneva Community Center.

Hosted by Child and Family Resources through its Healthy Families program, the event will take place June 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the community center gym. A Birth and Baby Class will be offered beforehand from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the same location.

“Our second shower this year takes place June 27 at the Geneva Community Center, and we have, oh, I think we have about 25 people signed up so far,” Child and Family Resources Executive Director Julie Champion said. “We have room for more.”

Champion said the event is designed to connect families with local resources while providing supplies and support for new and expecting parents.

“As part of our showers, we invite a lot of community agencies and other vendors to join us, so along with their presence and displays, they also donate for some of the supplies,” Champion said.

She added that funding through the Healthy Families program helps provide items families may need such as diapers, porta cribs and prizes for attendance. .

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet other parents and learn about services available in the community.

“It’s a great networking opportunity, especially for those first-time parents, and I think it allows them the ability to ask some questions or share stories,” Champion said.

The event may also serve as an introduction to other Child and Family Resources programs, including the Family Connection Circle, which supports new parents.

Registration is preferred. Those interested in attending can call Child and Family Resources at 315-412-4527.

Child and Family Resources serves Ontario, Seneca and Yates counties.
