A longtime Geneva summer tradition will return next week as the Presbyterian Women of the Geneva Presbyterian Church prepare to host their annual Strawberry Festival on Wednesday.
The event, organized by the Geneva Presbyterian Church, will be held June 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, located at 24 Park Place in Geneva. The festival is one of the organization’s longstanding community traditions and serves as a fundraiser for local causes.
Nancy Taylor of Presbyterian Women said attendees can expect strawberry shortcake with homemade cake, ice cream and fresh strawberries, along with live entertainment and a bake sale.
“Homemade cake, ice cream, variety of ice cream, strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate strawberries, and live entertainment,” Taylor said. “The thrift shop of the International Hand to Grass will also be open.”
This year’s bake sale proceeds will benefit Geneva Reads, a literacy-focused program that promotes reading among local children.
In addition to strawberry shortcake, visitors will find a variety of homemade baked goods available for purchase.
Taylor said the festival has deep roots in the community and has been held for decades, dating back to before Geneva’s Presbyterian congregations merged.
“This is a tradition of the Presbyterian Church,” she said. “It’s been an event that has been held every year since, with the exception of COVID, couple years.”
The event will be held rain or shine. Taylor noted that even last year’s rainy weather did not keep attendees away.
Admission is $7 for adults and children 13 and older and $3 for children ages 12 and under. Organizers ask attendees to bring cash.
